Why are SME IPO lot sizes so much bigger than mainboard IPOs?

SEBI requires the minimum application value for an SME IPO to be at least ₹2,00,000 (raised from ₹1,00,000 effective 2025) — far higher than a mainboard IPO's typical ₹14,000-15,000 minimum lot. Issuers set the lot size (shares per lot) specifically to clear this higher floor.

Can I apply for less than one lot in an SME IPO?

No. Like mainboard IPOs, SME IPOs only accept applications in whole lots — you cannot apply for a fractional lot.
