What is a Rights Issue?
A rights issue is when a listed company offers existing shareholders the right to buy additional shares at a discount to the market price. Only shareholders on the record date are eligible.
Ratio & Pricing
The ratio (e.g. 1:5) means 1 new share for every 5 held. The issue price is set at a discount to the current market price to incentivize subscription.
Record Date & Entitlement
Shareholders on the record date receive Rights Entitlements (REs) in their demat account. REs are tradeable on NSE/BSE since 2020 — sell them if you don't want to subscribe.

Subscribe If

- • Issue price is at a good discount
- • Funds are being raised for growth/expansion
Skip If
- • Company has a poor track record
- • Funds are being used for debt repayment
