How the IPO Market Cap Calculator works
Market capitalization = share price × total shares outstanding. For an IPO, "total shares outstanding" means the company's full post-issue share count — not just the shares sold in the IPO itself, which is usually a much smaller slice of the company.
Unlike issue price or lot size, the post-issue share count isn't something most investors have memorized or that gets repeated in every news article — it's buried in the RHP's capital structure disclosure. This calculator's IPO picker will fill it in automatically when that figure happens to be on file for the selected IPO, but for most IPOs today you'll need to enter it by hand from the prospectus. That's expected, not a sign of broken data.
Once listed, comparing market cap at issue price against market cap at the current price is a cleaner way to see how much value the market has added or removed than tracking the raw share price alone, especially if you want to reason about the company's overall size relative to listed peers.
